The Waterloo North Climate Action Group grew out of a number of Adult Sunday school sessions that were held in the Winter and Spring of 2019. After these sessions, an open invitation was given to all Waterloo North congregants that wanted to continue to explore the topics raised in these sessions.
The group began meeting in May 2019. The group attendance fluctuates, but about six to ten people attend any given meeting. Current active participants include: AndreaA, AndrewS, ChristineW, DaleBC, DaveB, GordonA, NolanA, ScottB, StephanieJM, WesD.
The group reviewed the “long list” from the Sunday School sessions, which included many ideas, passions, and potential areas of interest.
The group discerned that our core focus would be on the climate change crisis and how we, as a congregation and individuals, respond to the crisis in faithful, active, and meaningful ways.
We also recognize that the response is not something that can simply be delegated by the congregation to a small group. Rather, the group sees itself as a support and catalyst for all Waterloo North congregants.
We are also aware of similar groups in other congregations and denominations — Gordon has been a good conduit of information for us. We seek out opportunities for collaboration.
The group is open to feedback at any time.
