BRESLAU MENNONITE CHURCH

is seeking to fill a part-time faith formation role with the possibility of two positions, with one focussed on children (0.25FTE) and the other on youth and young adults (0.25FTE), or one combined position (0.5FTE). Commitment of 3–5 years preferred. For those interested in pursuing this as faith formation leader role please email a cover letter and resume to the attention of Kyle Gingerich, Church Council Chair at leadership.search@breslaumc.ca For those interested in pursuing this as a pastoral role please contact Marilyn Rudy-Froese, Church Leadership Minister, at pastoraltransitions@mcec.ca

CHRISTIANS TOGETHER WATERLOO REGION (formerly K-W Council of Churches)

HOUSE OF FRIENDSHIP

The “Backpacks for Kids” initiative invites your support to assist children in our community. Summer is a time for fun and freedom. But for families who are struggling to make ends meet, the fear of not being able to provide school supplies for their own children weighs heavy on their hearts… It’s a sinking feeling. Just imagine being this parent, longing to be there for their children. “I honestly thought I would have to do online schooling for my children again because I did not want them to be made fun of for not having food and having ripped bags.” Can you imagine if that were your family’s story? Sadly, that’s the reality facing more than 700 children in Waterloo Region. Over the next few weeks, can you come together and raise enough money to help an entire classroom of schoolchildren? For $1,225 – $50 per student – a congregation could equip an entire classroom with backpacks filled with the basic, essential school supplies they need to grow and learn. Or perhaps consider supporting five children, for $250 – every little bit helps! Thank you for ensuring that all children can get excited about returning to school, and start the year off with everything they need to succeed! Sincerely, Joanne Adair, House of Friendship Staff, Monthly Donor, and Mom of two!

Soap for hope
MCC urgently needs soap donations for countries where soap is scarce. Both bath soap (85g or larger, in wrapper) and laundry soap (e.g. Sunlight) are needed. Please donate to meet this crucial need. Donations can be dropped off at your local MCC Thrift Shop, office or the Material Resources warehouse.

MCC Prayer Request
Please take time to pray for our staff in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine and Israel. Please pray for peace and calm in the region. The killings of a Hezbollah leader in Lebanon, and a political leader of Hamas in Iran – both attributed to Israel – have exacerbated already-high tensions and raised the risk of a wider war. We pray for continued safety and for calm and peace for MCC’s nine staff members currently in Beirut, and for MCC’s partners and the communities that are part of our work in Lebanon. We continue to cry to God for an end to the devastation in Gaza and for our partners there and in the West Bank who are working, often under unimaginable conditions, to meet urgent needs. We pray for the four MCC staff members now in Jerusalem. Please also join us in praying for elected leaders in the U.S. and in Canada and encourage them not to pour fuel on the fires of war but to do all they can to work for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and a lasting and just peace for all.
